Quick Capture
Create entries from anywhere with a keyboard shortcut, header button, or floating action button.
Overview
Quick Capture is the fastest way to create a new entry in Swashbuckler. It opens a dialog where you pick a type (and optionally a template), then drops you straight into the editor with a new entry ready to go.
Triggers
| Trigger | Where |
|---|---|
| Cmd+E | Global keyboard shortcut — works from anywhere in the app |
| Header button | The + button in the app header |
| Floating button | The circular + button in the bottom-right corner |
How It Works
Step 1: Pick a Type
The dialog opens showing all types in the current space. Select the type you want to create an entry for.
Types with templates show a chevron indicator — selecting one of these drills into a template picker.
Step 2: Pick a Template (Optional)
If the type has templates, the dialog drills into a second level showing:
- New {Type} (no template) — creates a blank entry
- A list of available templates
Select an option to proceed.
If the selected template has custom variables, a variable prompt dialog appears asking you to fill them in before the entry is created.
Step 3: Edit
The new entry opens in the editor immediately. Start writing, fill in properties, and set an icon.
Keyboard Navigation
Quick Capture is fully keyboard-navigable:
| Key | Action |
|---|---|
| Arrow Up / Down | Move between options |
| Enter | Select the highlighted option (or drill into templates) |
| Escape | Close the dialog (or go back from the template picker to the type list) |
| Backspace | Go back from the template picker to the type list |
Creating New Types
If you need a type that doesn't exist yet, you can create one directly from the Quick Capture dialog. Look for the New Type action at the bottom of the type list.
