Reactions & Threads

React to messages with emoji and start threaded reply conversations without cluttering the main chat.

Reactions

React to any message with an emoji to show agreement, appreciation, or just have fun.

Adding Reactions

Hover over a message to reveal the action bar, then click the reaction button (smiley face icon). An emoji picker appears with common emoji options. Click one to add your reaction.

You can also click an existing reaction below a message to add yours to the same emoji.

Removing Reactions

Click a reaction you've already added to remove it. Your own reactions are highlighted with a distinct border or fill so you can tell which ones are yours.

Reaction Display

Reactions appear grouped by emoji beneath the message, showing the emoji and a count (e.g., 👍 3).

Threads

Reply to a specific message in a dedicated side panel, keeping detailed discussions out of the main channel feed.

Starting a Thread

Hover over a message and click the Reply action in the action bar. A thread drawer opens to the right, showing the original message at the top with a reply composer at the bottom.

Replying in a Thread

Type your reply in the thread composer and press Enter to send. Replies appear below the parent message in chronological order. All thread features (markdown, @mentions, spoilers, dice) work the same as in the main chat.

Thread Indicators

Messages with replies show a thread badge in the main feed displaying the reply count (e.g., "3 replies"). Click the badge to open the thread.

Thread Rules

  • Threads are one level deep — you can reply to a message, but you cannot reply to a reply
  • Thread replies do not appear in the main channel feed — they're only visible in the thread drawer
  • The thread drawer can be closed with the X button or by pressing Escape

Thread Drawer Layout

In the sidebar (narrow width), the thread drawer opens as an overlay covering the message list. In the pop-out window (wider), the drawer may appear alongside the main feed if there's enough room.
